My Story

From Ethiopia to California
A Life Carved in Wood

I am Yeshambel Ayicheh, a wood-carving artist whose journey began in Ethiopia at a young age. I learned the art of wood carving from my father, who introduced me to the patience, precision, creativity, and dedication required to transform ordinary wood into meaningful works of art.

Over the years, I continued developing my skills, learning through experience and improving my craft day by day.

In Ethiopia: I had the privilege of creating woodwork for many Ethiopian Orthodox churches and monasteries, as well as producing traditional home furniture and decorative pieces. Each project taught me something new and strengthened my commitment to preserving the beauty of Ethiopian wood-carving traditions.

Moving to America: In 2013, I had the opportunity to move to the United States and settle in San Francisco, California. I brought my traditional knowledge and passion for wood carving with me and continued my work in a new environment.

Today: I have had the opportunity to work with talented artists and serve churches and customers across California and other parts of the United States. My work combines the traditional techniques I learned from my father with my own creativity and ideas.

Whether creating church artwork, furniture, decorative panels, portraits, or custom carvings, I put care and dedication into every piece. I listen closely to each customer's vision and work to create something unique that they can truly appreciate.

The satisfaction and positive feedback of my customers and the churches I have served continue to inspire me. For me, wood carving is more than a profession—it is a craft passed down through generations, a way of expressing creativity, and a way of sharing Ethiopian artistic heritage with people wherever my journey takes me.
